Adult Literacy

Handi-Crafters, in partnership with Chester County OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Centers), offers classes in basic literacy and math skills. Our students range from just learning the alphabet to being fluent readers. The classes meet once a week after workshop hours. There is no cost for participants but you must provide your own transportation home.

The classes meet each Thursday after work and help students with such everyday tasks as writing one’s name and reading a newspaper. They are held at Handi-Crafters and taught by Chester County OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Center)

An annual Recognition Ceremony is held at Handi-Crafters in June for students in our Adult Literacy Program.

The Adult Literary Program got underway in 2001 with eight students and one teacher. It’s been extremely popular and now there are 70 students attending five classes.
