Older Adult Daily Living Center

"I don't want to work anymore.
I want to retire." ~
David, age 66

As Handi-Crafters has grown, we recognized the need for individuals who wished to stop working to have a program in place that would allow them to retire, but remain engaged and active.  The new Bentley Center has made this possible.

Our Older Adult Daily Living Center is designed to provide meaningful activities for adults with disabilities who are 60 years of age or older and/or for individuals who have been diagnosed with dementia or related illness who wish to retire from their employment program.

The program has a 7 to 1 staff-to-participant ratio which gives an opportunity for close bonds to be established.  The staff includes a director, activities coordinator and activities aides, who are well trained, with backgrounds in therapeutic recreation, education, health care and other relevant experiences.

Indoor Activities

Activities are designed to promote personal growth,
enhance self-image, and maintain and improve the
 functioning level of participants.

Outdoor Activities

Fresh air and sunshine are an essential part of
our program.  Many activities take place on
our porch or in the adjacent yard.

Off-campus field trips provide a
pleasurable change of pace.

Medical Care

Our Registered Nurse maintains a modernized health
suite where client medical and hygienic needs can be served.

Special Guests

The Lukens German Band plays to
the enjoyment of our folks!

Relaxation

For those who need either a nap or quiet time,
two rooms are available that provide lounge chairs,
music and soft lights.

A modern kitchen provides daily lunches that are nutritious
and moderately priced.  A large dining room is also
available to enjoy lunch with friends who are still part
of the active employment of Handi-Crafters.

A kitchenette is also available for small group cooking and
baking activities, as well as for heating up packed lunches.
