Long-Serving Volunteer, Mr. Robert (Bob) Spatola Receives 2016 Best Friend Award

Handi-Crafters is pleased to announce that Mr. Robert (Bob) Spatola of Lyndall is the recipient of the 2016 “Best Friend Award.” The Best Friend Award is given annually by Handi-Crafters to recognize and honor service, commitment and dedication to Handi-Crafters and its mission.

“Handi-Crafters is very proud to make this special recognition each year in the spirit of being our Best Friend,” said Amy Rice, Executive Director. We are very fortunate and honored by the support bestowed on our operations and our mission by generous donors, customers and corporations. “This award grants us the opportunity to say thank you and to honor our gracious and treasured friends. Bob and his wife Hannah are forever friends, very near and dear to our hearts! This award is most deserving.”

Bob Spatola came on the Handi-Crafters scene in 1996 after the late; Ellen Ann Roberts led him to the non-profit. Spatola embraced Handi-Crafters mission with a deep attachment and passion that has never ended. “I sold my business, was enduring a diagnosis of cancer and I was looking to volunteer,” said Spatola. “The timing of the invitation was right.” Over the years, Bob led the Board of Directors as President for four (4) terms and is credited for stabilizing Handi-Crafters financial position, growing operations which required infrastructure expansion. A newly renovated building was the result of a successful capital campaign. “In 2005, I met Bob McNeil. Somehow I got him interested in what we were doing at Handi-Crafters. It was terrific! Together, we co-chaired a campaign that raised $3-million.”

“Bob is our champion and our ambassador,” said Karen Ladd Baker, current Board President. “Bob knows all the clients names. When he walks into Handi-Crafters, the room and everyone in it lights up. It is quite special; the relationship that a non-profit organization can have with the right volunteer and right person. Bob is so generous with his time, his money and his life. He has made a permanent and tremendously positive impact on Handi-Crafters and for that we are forever grateful.”
The Best Friend Award will be formally presented on Friday night, April 22nd, 2016 at the Phoenixville Foundry. Tickets to attend the “Vintage Carnival,” are priced at $135 a person and can be reserved by calling: 610-384-6990 x 201.
